Our second field trip in two weeks… gotta love Pre-K. This time we went to visit the guys at New Deal Fire Department. We learned a lot about fire safety from them. Every parent needs to be informed and also teach their kids basic fire safety rules and tips. Check out the Top 10 Rules of Fire Safety here and make sure that you and your children know what to do in case of a fire. Always have a plan.

Their demonstration started out with the basics of fire safety and then showed us some of the equipment they use everyday. Needless to say, they have a lot of cool toys. The bunker gear they wear looks very heavy but they need it to protect themselves from the fire and smoke inside buildings. I don’t think I have what it takes to do their job.

They promised the kids that they could spray one of the guys with the fire hoses. The kids faces lit up. The firefighters took us outside and all the kids took their turns spraying Tyler (poor guy) down with the hoses. I got a little wet trying to get a good picture of Sophia not near as wet as the poor sap in the line of fire. :) I had fun watching the kids soak this guy they don’t even know and enjoying every second of it. We all had a blast.

I can’t believe I’ve gotten this far without mentioning Blaze. Blaze is a very friendly dalmatian who is part of the fire team and she loves kids. A very well trained dog whose purpose is to teach kids and fight fires. Seeing a fire fighting dalmatian teaching kids to stop, drop and roll is a sight to see. Blaze even had dalmatian stuffed animals with a Blaze badge attached to give to all of the kids.

We were told before the field trip that the New Deal Fire Department was providing lunch. I was expecting chili because well, it’s a fire station. I guess that was a little too cliché because hot dogs were on the menu for today. Now I want chili.

I’m going to leave you guys to look at some of the pictures we took. See you next time.
